pckt logo design

I really like the "pckt" logo design. i was wondering about its origin and inspiraton. i see some resemblance to the "Super Mario World" Logo design for the SNES. It fits very much into its playfulness and the color scheme is also very similar. I was kind of surprised that the logo is public domain since the "logo image consists only of simple geometric shapes or text. It does not meet the threshold of originality needed for copyright protection, and is therefore in the public domain." Does the same rule apply to the "pckt" logo?
